The Carrera Nameplate

Carrera has been Porsche's core 911 trim name since the 1950s, originally borrowed from the Carrera Panamericana road race in Mexico that Porsche competed in and won class honors at during the 1950s. It remains the name for the standard (non-Turbo, non-GT) 911 variants today, spanning decades of 911 generations from the earliest air-cooled cars through the current 992.

Door Sill Placement and Illumination

The sill plate mounts over the door entry threshold and illuminates the Carrera script when the door is opened, typically wired into the courtesy light circuit.

Materials and Mounting

Built from stainless steel with an integrated LED module, secured with adhesive and/or the factory sill trim fasteners.

Before You Order

Confirm your 911 generation (996, 997, 991, or 992), as sill dimensions and wiring access differ, and let us know your preferred illumination color.

Common Fitment Mistakes to Avoid

The most frequent error is ordering a sill plate sized for the wrong 911 generation, since sill length and profile change noticeably between the 996 and later 991/992 models. Underestimating the wiring work is another common issue; while the LED module itself is straightforward, routing a wire to the courtesy light circuit cleanly is easier with the door panel partially removed, so plan for a bit more time than a simple adhesive-only accessory would take.

Installation and Care

Installation generally involves removing the factory sill trim, positioning the new illuminated sill plate, connecting the LED wiring to the door's courtesy light circuit, and reinstalling the trim fasteners. This is best done by someone comfortable with light interior trim removal and basic 12V wiring, or by a professional installer. Once fitted, clean the sill plate with a soft cloth and avoid soaking the wiring connector when washing the door jambs.

Why a Custom Sill Instead of a Generic Universal Kit

Generic universal illuminated sill kits often use adhesive-only mounting and generic-width plates that do not match the 996's factory sill profile. Building to order lets us match your exact 911 generation's dimensions and wiring access points, so the result looks integrated rather than bolted on.

FAQ

Does this fit all 911 generations?

This listing is built for the 996 (1997-2006); other generations can be made to order, so confirm yours when purchasing.

Is this a genuine Porsche part?

No, it is a custom aftermarket accessory and is not licensed by Porsche AG.

Does the LED require special wiring?

It typically connects to an existing low-voltage courtesy light circuit; we can advise based on your specific car.

How long does an order take?

Since each sill is made to order for a specific generation, lead time depends on current demand; we confirm an estimate when your order is placed.
