The Volkswagen Tayron is VW's large 7-seat SUV for the Chinese market, launched in 2019 as a stretched derivative of the Tiguan Allspace. The Tayron is built on MQB platform specifically for Chinese family buyer preferences - it is 50mm longer than the Tiguan Allspace, with a stretched wheelbase of 2,980mm providing genuinely usable 3rd-row seating. Powered by 1.4T TSI (150 hp) or 2.0T TSI (186 hp), with available 4MOTION AWD. The Tayron X (2020+) adds a coupe-like sloping roofline for a Tiguan X derivative with a more premium aesthetic. The Tayron was developed in collaboration with SAIC-VW specifically for Chinese market consumer research showing strong demand for a VW-branded 7-seat family SUV at prices below the Touareg.
