The Buick Regal is one of Buick's most storied nameplates, dating back to 1973, and the car's final North American generation (2017-2020) was based on the Opel Insignia Grand Sport - an unusual global platform sharing situation. The 5th generation Regal (2017-2020) offered 1.5T (163 hp) Sport Touring, 2.0T (250 hp) in the GS and TourX wagon, plus AWD. The Regal TourX sport wagon was particularly popular among buyers wanting a practical performance estate - it offered 73.5 cubic feet of cargo space with seats folded. The Regal GS with 250 hp, Brembo front brakes, limited-slip differential, and sport-tuned suspension offered genuine performance credentials. While discontinued in the US in 2020, the Regal continues in China as a core Buick model.
