About the Q5 Nameplate

The Q5 has been part of Audi's Q-series SUV lineup since 2008, sitting between the smaller Q3 and larger Q7 in size and positioning, and has consistently been one of Audi's best-selling models worldwide. Its blend of compact-SUV practicality and Audi's signature interior quality has made it a common choice for buyers cross-shopping against the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Fitment Notes

Tailgate curvature differs between the original (8R) and current (FY) generations, so confirm your exact generation and year when ordering.

Materials and Mounting

Chrome ABS lettering and numerals on a resin backing plate, applied with automotive-grade 3M adhesive. A gloss black finish is also available for owners who prefer a blacked-out badge treatment.

Before You Order

Confirm your Q5 generation and year, your preferred finish, and whether an old badge needs to be removed first.

Common Fitment Mistakes to Avoid

The most common mistake is ordering a badge sized for the wrong Q5 generation, since the 8R and FY tailgates curve differently and a mismatched badge will show visible gaps at the edges. Another frequent issue is skipping proper surface prep; old wax or silicone-based dressings left on the paint will weaken the adhesive bond and can cause the badge to lift within weeks rather than lasting for years.

Installation and Care

Clean the tailgate surface thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol to remove wax and adhesive residue, position the badge against reference marks, and press firmly along its length, letting the adhesive cure for at least 24 hours before washing. Afterward, hand wash and avoid pressure-washing directly at the edges to prevent lifting over time.

Why a Custom Badge Instead of a Generic Reproduction

Tailgate curvature differs between the original 8R Q5 and the current FY generation, so a one-size reproduction can leave visible gaps. Building to order lets us match your exact generation, choose the finish you want, and pair it with a Quattro badge if desired.
