The Hummer H1 was the most extreme production civilian vehicle ever sold to the general public - based directly on the AM General HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) military vehicle used by the US Army since 1984. The H1 was produced from 1992 to 2006 with a 6.5L turbodiesel V8 (195 hp) or 6.5L NA diesel, and a unique 4-door/4-seat layout with a central tunnel of 23 inches (59 cm) height running through the interior due to the H1's 16 inches of ground clearance. The H1's 86.5-inch width required special permits to drive in some US states, and its 7,200 lb weight made it the heaviest consumer vehicle available. Approximately 12,000 units were produced over 14 years, including the iconic Open-Top and wagon variants. Arnold Schwarzenegger purchased the first civilian H1 in 1992 after seeing the military HMMWV on an Oregon film set.
