The Mercedes-Benz M-Class (ML) was Mercedes's original midsize luxury SUV, produced from 1997 to 2015 before being renamed the GLE. The 3rd generation ML (W166, 2011-2015) used a 3.5L V6 (306 hp), 3.0L BlueTEC diesel (231 hp), and the ML 63 AMG with a 5.5L biturbo V8 (525 hp). The ML was notably one of the first luxury SUVs to achieve a 5-star NCAP safety rating, pioneering PRE-SAFE emergency braking systems. The W163 original ML was used in the filming of Jurassic Park: The Lost World (1997) which significantly boosted its early sales. Despite being discontinued, the ML nameplate remains beloved and replacement parts/accessories are widely available.
