What Is a Power Liftgate Kit?

A power liftgate kit is a motorized retrofit that opens and closes your vehicle's trunk or tailgate automatically, replacing the manual push-and-pull motion with a controlled electric actuator. It is built for vehicles that did not come with this feature from the factory.

Find a Kit for Your Vehicle

Because mounting points, tailgate weight and wiring differ between vehicles, kits are organized so you can reach the exact product built for your car:

1. Select your vehicle brand.
2. Select your specific model.
3. Confirm the production year or generation.
4. Review the product configuration on the individual product page.

Available Control and Configuration Options

Depending on the selected product, a kit may include automatic opening and closing, an interior control button, a tailgate-mounted button, original key-fob control, an optional foot sensor, an optional soft-close function, or a programmable opening height. Available functions depend on the selected vehicle and kit configuration; check the individual product page for the exact feature list.

Why Vehicle-Specific Fitment Matters

A kit built for one vehicle cannot be assumed to fit another. Tailgate size and weight, mounting points, body type, the vehicle's electrical wiring, and differences between generations of the same model all affect fitment, along with the vehicle's factory configuration. Always confirm your exact model, generation and production year before ordering.

Installation and Compatibility

Installation is vehicle-specific and can involve mechanical fitting to the tailgate mechanism along with wiring into the vehicle's existing electrical system. Professional installation is recommended unless the installer has relevant automotive electrical experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are power liftgate kits universal? No. Kits are built for a specific vehicle brand, model and, in many cases, a specific generation or production range.

How do I find the correct kit for my vehicle? Use the brand, model and year selector on this page to reach your vehicle's dedicated product page, then confirm the fitment details shown there.

Does every kit support the original key fob? Selected kits support control through the original key fob; availability depends on the specific product, so check the product page to confirm.

Is a foot sensor included? A foot-sensor option is available on selected kits. Check the individual product page to see whether it is offered for your vehicle.

Can a kit fit several production years? Some kits are listed for several production years or a vehicle generation. Check the product page for the production range currently stated in the catalog.

Is professional installation recommended? Yes, unless the installer has automotive electrical experience, since installation includes vehicle-specific wiring in addition to mechanical fitting.

What should I check before ordering? Confirm your vehicle's brand, model, generation and production year against the product page, and compare your current tailgate setup with the listed configuration.
